I meant the game settings, not the world settings. You can turn off canopy shadows to improve the performance.

ah, well problem is the canopy shadows aren't what's tanking the performance. turning off or on has no effect on fps for me. 

The only minor issue I have is loading times. I do have a high end system and I've never made any extravagant mega bases so lag hasn't been an issue. Loading up the world initially takes noticeably longer than most other games I've played, which can be annoying when you're practicing boss fights and rolling back a lot. And yes I'm loading the game from an SSD.

It probably takes a lot of effort to address this, otherwise Klei would have done so already. They do have other things they can work on instead with their time, like bug fixes and adding new content. So it's tough.
