Tools For Custom Animations?

There are a lot of things that can be modded in this game, such as custom script, images, and even audio. However, there is one thing that is not possible to mod right now, and that is animation.

I know the last time I asked about this topic is that there are no plans for custom animation support, but the community doesn't necessarily need active support from the developers, in case you guys are busy working on other projects like the new game announced. If it is possible that you can share some of the tools you used for making animations for the game, that would be great. If that is not possible, even if you could shed some light on how the animations are formatted in the game, that would be better than what we can currently do (which is keeping the original animation intact and replace the sprite sheet).

If we can make custom animations, loading the animations should be the easy part, and we can then add custom animations to mods. The only hard part is the making of custom animations, so if the devs can help us or lead us to the right direction for making custom animations, that would be great.
