goatt Posted May 11, 2022 Share Posted May 11, 2022 The problem I'm trying to solve is how to make bosses more durable and difficult when there are many players so that bosses don't melt? I suggest we have a universal way to make non-seasonal bosses misery. This idea is inspired by Misery Toad and Lunar Siphonator: Giant Grooming Station. It increases bosses difficulty, durability and loot by a reasonable amount. Backstory Giant Grooming Station is a crazy science idea that Giants can be groomed and petted. After the station is built, a statue of corresponding boss will be plugged into the station (same way as plugging celestial fissures). The statue is an attempt to pretend to be the same kind of the giant with the goal of befriending it. A giant will be non-hostile around the grooming station. But, everything will go south. The giant comes up to the grooming station, try having a handshake with the statue, accidentally breaks it, feels fooled and turns furious, destroys (hammers down) the entire groom station and seeks vengeance in its misery form. Demo Spoiler Giant Grooming Station recipe (excluding statues): - 1 moonlens with red gem socket (red means passion as well as rage) - 2 living logs - 2 nightmare fuel Extra steps: 1. build a statue 2. plug it into the station (pretend the purple magic pattern on the ground is also red) After the grooming station is destroyed, the living log will get ignited by the red gem moonlens and scream beside the furious giant. The nightmare fuel will be sucked into the giant and transform it. The red gem moonlens can be recycled. The burning living log can be saved if the fire is put out. After the transformation, the boss should gain (perhaps) 10% damage increase and 80% HP increase. (Those increases combined are equivalent to a 98% increase in difficulty, nearly doubles it. The non-food loot will be doubled. Despawned bosses will return to calm state. Discussion: 1. Cost. The true cost of misery bosses is 1 (maybe 2) living log and nightmare fuels plus broken statue, because the burning living log can be saved by water balloon or ice staff or other methods. I think it's very reasonable because it saves 20 days of bosses' respawn time. 2. I don't think it's a good idea to universally increase all bosses' damage and HP by the same amount. But I think it's fairly easy to adjust numbers for each boss. But bosses' behaviors don't need extra new code in coding. 3. It doesn't affect the normal game play. 4. It utilizes some least used items that have been in game for ages. 5. It's possible to make boss harder than misery by socket more stuff into the station. (But I haven't made that far yet) 6. One takeaway is that boss HP scaling can be done without providing different settings or changing current HP balances.
