PetulantPansy
I just saw auroroboof's video in the main discussion and one thing was alarming. A main point of criticism of the current crafting menu was: "why are there so many tabs"; "is every character specific item going to get another tab" That's a fair point, but is the solution in the new crafting menu to literally double the different tabs (or "filters") to 20 over the existing 10? [im talking about the main filters that you would normally interface with] Interested in feedback here as this would not surprise me if it were brought up as a point after the release. I'm trying my best to refrain from much criticism before it goes live since I don't want to be a party pooper Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/138399-notable-crafting-menu-debate-point/ Share on other sites
Owlrust
25 minutes ago, PetulantPansy said: why are there so many tabs"; "is every character specific item going to get another tab Every character-specific tab/craftable is (to my knowledge) placed in the "Character" tab, they don't have their own tabs anymore. The whole point of the rework was to make the UI more accessible. The old UI had items in various locations that just didn't make too much sense sometimes, and was very unfriendly to newer players; plus, any new items that get added to the game going forward would end up cluttering the menu even more so it only made sense to revamp it. PetulantPansy
problem im pointing at is that there might be too many tabs/filters in the new system. I think people were already complaining about the number of tabs in the existing system. I used the character specific items as an example of criticism towards too many tabs in the existing/current system. reallychina
There are not too many tabs, the new system is very, very good and very intuitive. Character tab is only one tab and it's contents change based on the character you're playing. Juny Pear
The thing about the new ui is that it fundamentally approaches categorizing of items differently than the old menu. The old menu had more generic, broad categories that often times would include so many items you couldn't find what you're looking for unless you have played the game for years like a lot of people here on the forums. This led to things like the survival tab being filled with whatever feels generically "survival" like, which included things for healing, seasonal gear, utility, etc. and it was very full. In contrast newer added and more specific tabs would have about 8 items at most since not many things would have fit for it. With the new menu on the other hand items are not really categorized in tabs, more so than they are given filters that apply to several categories at once. So for instance now instead of just being in the survival tab, fishing rods are sorted within the tools, food gathering and fishing filters, since they fit under more than one of these categories. Now the ui is less about learning how things are sorted in a menu and more about knowing what an item's properties are in order to find them, which is much more beginner friendly than splitting up all the items they might need for a season across 3 different tabs. It is a little weird for more experienced players since it's different and they'll need to get used to it, but I'm confident that in time people will adjust well enough. Well either that, or they use mods to readd the old ui (good luck with that by the way). I understand that it can definitely come off as intimidating or overwhelming seeing all those filters in the menu, but the sheer quantity of filters is, at least in my eyes, not the biggest issue the ui really has since with maybe one or two small exceptions every item is found within filters that make sense and are pretty clear.
