Depression as a new disease

Make a QoL upgrade with a new class of mental disorders to reflect the detrimental effect of chronical stress. Let dupes get depression when their stress level is above 50% for continued 15 cycles (clinical diagnosis criteria for depression is feeling bad for more than 2 wks). When they're depressed, all attributes -20, and they'll see doctor at the medical bay to get antidepressant pills. Let the apothecary produces a new type of drug called antidepressant using sulfur and coal. Each pill -10% stress and needs to be taken daily until the dupe's stress level is below 50% for 15 cycles. It must be prescribed by a dupe with bedside manners skill. Depression can also be self-cured if stress is reduced below 50% for 15 cycles by other means like improving morale. If left unattended that their stress level reaches 100% for a cycle, they'll be freaked out and lying on the ground in pain (called catatonic stupor) until stress is reduced. Other dupes can carry a paralyzed dupe to a triage cot so a doctor can treat him out of the state (not the disease). If untreated that his stress level remains 100% for a continued 15 cycles, he'll commit suicide by hanging over and other dupes get -30 morale drop upon his death. 

When a dupe with "Duress to Impress" or "superproductive" trait gets depression, it becomes bipolar disorder. He'll get mania and depression alternatively. i.e. being productive for 50% time and depressed for another half. As his condition prolongs, the alternation will be faster. At the first day he gets bipolar, he'll be productive for half cycle, and depressed for the remaining half. Each day after reduces the duration of maniac and depressed state for 50 sec. At day 6, he'll be maniac for 50 sec, depressed for 50 sec, repeat 6 times in a day and remains so for days after until he's paralyzed in stupor and can't do anything.

If dupes get depression or bipolar for more than continued 30 cycles, despite being treated or not, they'll get schizophrenia and start acting insane like strolling aimlessly around the map unaware of dangerous places, hiding themselves from other dupes, critters or even inanimate objects like machines fearing they may harm them, talking to the air and random quick changing of facial expression as they hallucinate, and self-harming behaviors that drops their health level, such as eating non-edibles like sandstone that hurts their stomach, bumping their head against wall, etc.

Dupes' original stress reactions don't conflict with all those mental disorders, and they intensify by accompanying with gradual health drop (-5 health/second of stress response when sick). All 3 types of mental diseases can result in catatonic stupor that requires immediate medical attention if stress remains 100% for 1 cycle, and suicide if unalleviated for 15 days. With this upgrade, abusing or exploiting dupes will be a sin. Imagine a colony went completely insane......
