Is there a plan to induce plant variation with radiation bees?

Are you asking for an existing build? I don't know of any.  But it's certainly possible.  You can do it with anything that makes radiation.  Beetas are interesting now that they only emit radiation when they're asleep.  They're essentially turning CO2 into rads.

You can reduce the CO2 usage by using the fact that the radiation check is only done at the moment the plant is harvested.  Plus you can harvest a wilted plant if it's already mature.  So you only need to put the bees to sleep for the brief period that a dupe is present and you can flood the plants with more than their max radiation without worrying.

It could be a fun challenge to design, but manipulating the bees and gasses seems rather fiddly.

Have you designed it? Send pictures to see

I haven't designed one with beetas, but I did this one with radbolts back before they nerfed the radiation output of radbolt collisions:

You should be able to use a similar design, but with beetas as a radiation source.

You'll probably need something like this:

to collect the beetas.  Though again you'll have to modify it since the mechanics have changed.  They've fixed the bug so now you can use critter sensors to operate the door droppers instead of timers.  And now you have to feed them CO2 to make them sleep before they'll emit radiation.

Neither of these schemes seems to work

Not anymore they don't, no.  The mechanics involved have changed since they were built.  Like I said, you'd need to update them, but they may give you some ideas.
