Ranchers should relocate critters after wrangling

Recommended Posts

After wrangling a critter, a rancher dupe will ignore the trussed critter when selecting its next task. Even if the relocate task has a higher priority, the rancher will travel to its 2nd highest priority task, and only then return to relocate the trussed critter. This means a lot of unnecessary travel time. Worse, if the relocate task and rancher's other tasks have the same priority, then the rancher may not return for a long time, sometimes long enough for the critter to escape its bindings.

I'm guessing the problem is that the rancher's task selection happens before the game realizes the critter is now trussed, so they don't recognize that the relocate task is an option. This isn't how it works for most tasks. For example, after a dupe builds a ladder, they immediately recognize that they can stand on it to reach their next task. I suggest reconciling how critter status updates work with how other objects' updates work.

It`s a side effect of how critters work in ONI. They are a major lag creator so they are updating tiers status at a lower priority and it sometimes takes a few seconds for the critter to realize it`s now trussed. They`d have to change how critters behave to fix that which might be a good fix as it would also address a few other critter issues that happen when the game goes down below 20 fps.

If updating critters' status more frequently or at a higher priority is a no-go, an easy kluge would be to have ranchers idle for a few seconds after wrangling a critter. That would give the system time to update the critter status before the rancher chooses their next task, so they realize they should grab the critter they just wrangled.
