Wont, if you look at mikes image it isnt shaded, pretty obvious whats going on, those textures are made with the bottom being darker, you do not need ray tracing and advanced shadows for something to be 3D, do you think DOOM had advanced shadows?

You seem to be confusing 3d terrain with building in the air and platforming, I just used the mod as an example on how 3d terrain could be possible

Yeah and thats mostly what I meant, im not talking SKY BASE PARKOUR, I just mean like literally moving up or down a little bit on a hill so the terrain doesnt feel so flat
