Currents to move and push items, critters, and duplicants around, this could have cool consequences like duplicants being forcefully sucked into space or have items move around using water.

This could be a problem with performance, adding more physics in the current state of the game, the late game is almost unplayable for some people, FPS drops from 60 to 25. In my case, with DLC, the base game drop to 60 to 40, and the late game drop to 15.

Not necessarily, processing would only occur when the item is moving, most of the time items are not moving.
