So here is a revised design for 4 dupes that does the research a lot faster. Interior is filled with 30kg/tile or so of Oxygen. Storage compactor with dirt and outhouse is optional, as is the upper, unpowered fridge holding food poisoning medication. If you use small batteries and reduce the amenities, it may even be possible to do this with 4 telescopes but there really is no need and that would leave the "simple" design space, I think.
