Connection issues when trying to connect to a friend's game

Me and a friend bought dst and it will not let us join the same game when connecting it says something went wrong we can both join random games and host but if he's in the game I can't connect and vise versa

this sounds more like a bug than a suggestion

are you guys using mods? maybe a mod is causing a problem? if not then idk tbh sorry i cant be of any help
