Does content from the update transfer to Worlds before the update?

So the new update - She Sells Sea Shells - arrived and it just occurred to me that my old world might not have the content of that update because the world wasn't created during the update. I'm afraid of messing up my world with cheats to find this out so I'm just going to ask this here - will my world have all the new stuff (like the npc and the boss)? Or will I have to start over, to get the new content.

I tried looking this up online but all I found was retrofitting beta stuff. Thank you.

Edit: I literally was just playing a creative world and my world started retrofitting. I feel dumb now. Sorry for wasting your time
