DarkMaster13 Posted September 13, 2019 Share Posted September 13, 2019 Since I put together that difficulty estimation thread, I thought I'd use it to come up with some more asteroids just for fun. That said, if Klei or a modder wants to use these for inspiration I don't mind at all. Neoconti An easy and straightforward forest start asteroid. The only missing biome is the tide pool, so you are only down easy lime sources and waterweed. However we were playing that way up until the launch update came out. Let's players try out the forest and rust biomes without needing to seriously change their playstyle in the mid to late game. Tropican Intended to be a challenge map, as it takes away both the ice and swamp biomes while also making the player deal with extreme heat. You do have the upside of starting in the sandstone biome, have sandstone biomes scattered around the map, and this one always includes a subsurface ocean. Enjoy your time on a tropical island with limited resources and no cold water. Hope you enjoy eating lettuce. Steppara Something very different, as this is an attempt at a map without the jungle/toxic biome. All of the current asteroids include that biome, so how well this goes is purely up to speculation. You are also down the rust biome, so there are no drekos or easy sources of iron on the map. You will have no choice but to go down to the oil biome for oil, iron, and plastic. It is a sandstone start, so you have some early coal from there and an easier time setting up hatches. Also there are forest biomes for dirt and phosphorus (the volume of which per tile is fixed), as well as some balm lily points of interest so you can still cure slimelung. Tigtic Lastly we have me going all out on something custom. It's a cold map, like Rime, but not quite as extreme and with far more limited resources. There is no jungle, tide pool, or swamp biomes (all the normal hot biomes). Well, no normal swamp biomes anyway. Instead you get a bunch of replacement tiga biomes covering most of the map which are essentially a cold swamp with ice and toxic biomes mixed in. They have sedimentary rock, gold amalgum, and clay, but also scattered pockets of coal, oil, and ice. Slime is quite rare, so you can farm dusk caps, but thankfully free of slimelung. It does get the normal swamp natural gas geyser, but instead of the cool steam vent there's an uncovered cool slush geyser. There is a bunch of muckroot in here, as well as most of the swamp plant seeds. Lastly there's a new critter which can be ranched for either pincha peppernuts or a similar cooking ingredient that can be cooked with sleet wheat grain/frost buns and nosh beans/tofu in the gas range. You might need that muckroot too, as you start in a forest that's too cold for mealwood or arbor trees to grow (it is warm enough for oxyfern). Without coal or wood, your early game heat sources are quite limited. Expect to be in a race against the clock and to be spending significant amounts of time scavenging for food in the tiga until you can get your farm warm enough to support mealwood or get some dusk caps. Or perhaps you decide to skip straight to Nosh Sprouts and Sleet Wheat, given they aren't going to have trouble growing on most of the map. Just because there's so much new stuff here, I have no idea how difficult this map would be.
