Shine bug eating plant, but when it's hungry it can start chewing duplicants or walk away and replant itself. If not in future upgrades than maybe Day of the triffids DLC? In addition to that Mushrooms should have spores that with high concentration could have random chance to create mold tiles or plant fresh mushrooms onto mold tiles. Mushroom spores grows in solids. That could add an another mechanics to a game - weeds and terrain infestation. Mold that you have to fight with chlorine bombs. Clean water turned into polluted water from nearby waste.
