This is something that I thought after the recent changes in the wheezewort and I decided to share.
First is to give them (wheezies) some of the other critters traits, like walking and eating.
Them could have a specified location to stay and breath (the player could carry them and left them in some tile or farm tile, etc.) and if there is some phosphorite in their walkable path, they would go there once a cicle or less and eat some phosphorite before going back to place, gaining the domesticated status and max cooling.
They would still don't reproduce, have the same temp range, atmosphere, etc.
Here is a simple gif that I made to help to show what is in my head.

I`d prefer if the worts had a lifecycle (a very long one as they slow their metabolism while cooling stuff around) but after they reach the end they change into a type of a critter (a flying jellyfish or something) that can lay a wort seed as an egg. This way you could tame them and get multiple out of one after a while.

Or scratch that. It shouldn`t change. Changes would break designs. They should spawn the critter instead but only when planted and fertilized. The critter would change into a seed after a while.

That would give the wheezeworts a kinda of scary tone (weird critters that become seeds) I like this! Has that Klei weirdness that I've come to like.

You should read the lore files you can find when inspecting ruins in game. They mention that the wheezewort is not quite a plant.

Even better! I haven't gotten around to reading all the lore so will do when the launch upgrade goes through, kinda want to wait.
