How to improve Crops

Recommended Posts

All crop plants, with the exception of the almighty Dragon Fruit (and MAYBE the Watermelon), are, frankly, almost useless. I will suggest a few ideas that might provide an adequate solution to this dilemma.

When harvesting lower tier crops (Corn, Carrot, Pomegranate,Durian, etc), the player will receive 3, or in some cases, 2 of the crop item. The plants will also appear to have more than one crop when they're fully grown. Things like Dragon Fruits, Watermelons and Pumpkins will only give one item.

Make special crockpot recipes for each crop, like Stuffed Eggplant and Melonsicle. Some examples that spring to mind are Carrot Cake, Pomegranate Smoothie, and Corn Flakes.

Scrap farms plots. They are admittedly a very convoluted way to farm crops. A better system would be to use the Pitchfork to till turfs, and Seeds can then be planted in the tilled sections and then fertilized. You would only be able to till a turfs with grass on them : Grassland, Forest, Deciduous, etc.

Make crop plants spawn naturally when the world is created.

Or add the hoe from Gorge instead of using the pitchfork? The farms could be changed for "fertile soil turf" or some name like that, and it would have the effect that stuff planted on them grow faster than in regular turf.

That would just invalidate part of wormwood from hamlet. One of his perks is that he can plant seeds everywhere, and if you remove farm plots, it negates that perk.

Make the seeds he plants grow 50% faster and he also doesn't need to till the ground or fertilize the crops for them to grow.

I suggested the pitchfork because it's a tool associated with farming and I wanted to give another use to it other than digging turfs up. I really like the idea of being able to craft turfs in which plants grow faster- the more turfs in the game, the better

Yeah, I figured, but I think it has enough of a use already? I don't know, it just sounds better to have a separate item for that specific function.

Yeah, I guess. DS tools aren't very multi-use, and having a new tool would be pretty good.
