Auto-assign jobs per new tier setting

Recommended Posts

I have seen it suggested before to have duplicants automatically move to the next job in a given tier. This builds on that idea by specifying how far you want a duplicant to progress. This would be a new popup in the job assignments screen and is accessible from a button in the top right near the Auto-Prioritize checkbox:

After Jean finishes groundskeeping and Liam finishes Sous Chef, they will automatically be assigned to a new job until they completes all jobs up to and including tier 3. At which point the automatic assignment will stop.

Nikola and Camille will automatically be reassigned to complete all jobs up to and including those in tier 2.

Frankie and Joshua are set to 0, so they will not be automatically assigned new jobs. This is the default setting for everyone. This does not prevent the player from assigning them to higher tier jobs, it just will not happen automatically.

This is very useful for late game or for players that do not want to manage jobs. This allows duplicants to progress automatically.

Thanks for considering this; I'm just brainstorming small QoL updates to see if there is any community interest. Klei, thanks for a great game!

While I play that way, it does remove a lot of the decision-making from the Jobs system.  I would instead prefer to see an active-only bonus on top of the permanent bonus that rewards keeping a dupe in a particular job.  The idea is that you would be incentivized to keep your dupes spread around into all the jobs, making the process of reassigning them more interesting.  So everyone can learn Scientist if they want, but folks who are *currently* Scientists will get an *additional* +2 or +4 to Learning.  Otherwise, once dupes have mastered every job, the only benefit to putting them in a specific job is that you get one more pri level for that job.  Big whoop.

Maybe another incentive would be a +1 global morale boost for having every job category covered by a dupe?  As in, the dupes are skeptical of your leadership if there are no active chefs or farmers...
