[Suggestion] Hills, mountains and cliffs

Recommended Posts

As seen on Wickerbottom's loading vignette, casting a spell facing a huge mountain, made me think about having elevation in the worlds, with big mountains, cliffs and all, instead of being just an infinite flat world.

It would be nice, with things like:

 - One's speed could be slower when climbing up a hill, and faster when climbing down, maybe even stumbling and falling if running too fast (canes + roads... you know it);

- Items rolling/sliding down hills;

- Slightly increased damage output when attacking from above and decreased when attacking from below;

- Perpetual snowy climate on the bigger mountain peaks, with a little insanity aura caused by the thin air;

- Avalanches and giant snowballs falling from atop?? Wild fantasy but who knows;

- You can jump off small cliffs without damage penalty, and from larger ones with damage penalty;

That's all I could come up with now, but I had this idea for some time now.

What do you think, would it be possible, and(or) nice to have it on new worlds?

I was thinking about mountains and valleys earlier and I think it could make a nice change to the core game, especially if the climate would change with the area (colder on mounains, more balanced near the ocean (tho there's ocean everywhere currently...), a bit darker in valleys...). Since it would be a very game changing mechanic, it would take some time to create and balance it well, but I think it would worth it.

Maybe rather instead of (or next to) the damage, some of the player's equipment could break? From the higher you fall, the more stuff can possibly break. This would make players consider twice before jumping (or pushing their mate... hm... new trolling possibilities! :D ) This would be also an interesting idea.
