Before, want to mention this werepig suggestion. Think is needed, considering season called ``aPORKalypse``. May be some pig get out of house and turn to these werepig too, if bitten by bat? Gives some sence to vampire bat ``pig skin?`` thing a bit.

Somehow had this thought; could aporkalypse be tied to ruins salvaging? Each totem you take/chisel, trap you disable, statue you mine, pot you smash would be tally for the aporkalypse and its intensity. One thing could happen is ghost amount in room correlates to things you did in that room, and ghost has 100% chance spawn from doing these things while aporkalipse is active.

The only way to stop aporkalipse could be defeat ancient herald to get item, to put at the clock (instead of just step on it), which stop aporkalipse and regenerate all traps, statue, pot and relic/totem (even ones on ground and in water).

With this, each relic could worth 100 oinc or 50 oinc at least, because otherwise no point scavenging ruins and deep jungle late game, nightmare fuel each give same amount, and you can get lot of oinc doing less dangerous things too, so 10 oinc is not enough. People just trade berries they steal, and no point getting stuff from ruins, just fill inventory space. But collecting ruins would count for tally to aporkalipse, so while make things bit easier, you need to prepare for what is coming.

EDIT: oh, and taking water from fountain of youth and killing pugalisk should give a lot to tally too :)
