Endless Gorge Strategy Tips

Sharing some tips if you want to go for a long game or the leader board, although for maxium experience efficiency endless is not recommended (see here).

Before you start you want to have planned out which recipe you want to use on each craving. The main criteria I used were cooking speed, renewable ingredients, simplicity of the recipe and the level of the recipe to sustain the need for Red Marks for Goat Milk. Note that this list does not include starting recipes but rather the ones you keep on cooking in the end stage and Veggie craving is omitted since it does not appear later on:

Recipes:

  • Craving: Recipe (Ingredient1, Ingredient2/AlternativeIngredient2, Ingredient3, Cooking Station)
  • Snack: Grilled Cheese (Flour, Flour/Goat Milk, Goat Milk, Grill)
  • Bread: Grilled Cheese (Flour, Flour/Goat Milk, Goat Milk, Grill)
  • Meat: Burger (Flour, Flour/Meat Scraps, Meat Scraps, Meat Scraps, Grill)
  • Fish: Fish Burger (Flour, Flour/Salmon, Salmon, Salmon, Grill)
  • Soup: Onion Soup (Flour, Goat Milk, Onion, Onion, Cookpot) or Meat Stew (Meat Scraps, Meat Scraps, Meat Scraps, Meat Scraps, Cookpot)
  • Dessert: Waffles (Flour, Flour, Syrup, Grill)
  • Pasta: Macaroni and Cheese (Flour, Flour/Goat Milk, Goat Milk, Cookpot)

Ingredients:

  • Flour: Wheat (Packet of Blue Seeds) for Flour and Onions (Packet of Pointy Seeds) are the only seeds needed to be planted. Since every single dish requires at least one Flour, you need to plant a lot of Wheat. At the start you need to fertilize and later seeds will have enough time to grow on their own.
  • Goat Milk: Only thing you have to keep in mind is, that you need Red Marks to buy Goat Milk. So if you are low on Red Marks use 2x Flour on Grilled Cheese and Macaroni and Cheese.
  • Meat Scraps / Salmon: These are renewable through Pidgeons from Billy and the Salt ponds respectivley. Try to keep a stock of 4 Pidgeons and 4 salmon in the Safe. Reduce travel time and let the one running for salt also get these. Sometimes the fish is spoiling, then you can use 3 Salmons for the Fishburger. You can try using a bird trap with Blue Seeds as a bait but you have enough Od Coins anyway
  • Syrup: Syrup and Sap are important for two reasons. Syrup is the only renewable ingredient to make Dessert from and Sap can be used as fuel for cooking stations. I believe it has two times the fuel value of logs (can someone confirm this?), so you want to change from the time consuming wood cutting to sap harvesting as soon as possible. In my experience you should have 6-9 trees sapped for a sufficient amount of sap. If you ruin a tree it is not the end of the world because Ruined Sap can also be used as fuel and apparently the tree keeps producing Ruined Sap. Anyway try to put the Sapping kits on trees of the same growth stage so they all have the same timer.

Characters and general tips:

  • Farmhand: Webber is pretty much mandatory with all the wheat planting
  • Gatherer: Since you can use Sap as fuel you do not need a wood cutting specialist. A better gatherer would be WX for all the running duties.
  • Chef: I preferred Wes for the starting discount, but since Old Coins are not a limitation later on, Silver Ware irrelevant and most recipes feature the Grill, Wendy is probably better in the long run (Waffles burn really fast).
  • Salt: I did not mention this yet, but you want to Salt every dish you offer, also if you precooked something you want to keep it fresh (green). You can use Salt multiple times on the same meal. When you have enough Old Coins get a second Salt rack (please not a third for obvious reasons) on the same timer.
  • Cooking station placement: The lower two Fire Pits are closer to each other and one is very close to the fridge. For this reason I placed the Large Grill on the Fire Pit near the Safe because that is where I need to cook the Meat and Fish dishes. On the other Fire Pit is the Cookpot station for Macaroni, Soup and Syrup. Later you may want to get another Cookpot station for Syrup only so Syrup cooking does not interfere with Soup and Pasta Cravings.
  • Precooking: Cooking Burger and Fish Burger on the Grill and Soup in the Cookpot takes a little more time and you can often squeeze in a Macaroni and Cheese or a Grilled Cheese / Waffle on the other cooking station.
  • Inventory management: You want to keep the ingredients you need close or in your 4 slot inventory, always have Flour, Goat Milk or Red Mark and probably Salt in your inventory. One slot open for picking up other ingredients or the Cookpot. Let your team mates directly hand you Flour and Salt to save time looking for it or picking it up. When buying Pidgeons or Seeds get 15 or 5 Old coins respectively and buy 5 items so you filled your inventory and carry one in your hand.
  • Help each other out and reduce walking time: A bit obvious but cannot be stressed enough. If you notice you are running low on Wheat buy Seeds for Webber, if you run for Key and Locked Safe get a Bucket of Poop from the Chief too, if you are grinding Wheat also get two fish and/or the salt and so forth, also try to let your team mates know what you are doing if it is not obvious. Keep doing something. Some poeple seem to not know what to do with themselves in late game and just stand around. I do not know why because there is always something to do. If in doubt cook Syrup, buy Blue Seeds or get a Salmon.

With this recipe list and mind set I managed to do a one and a half hour run (near the 30th lead board place at that time) with complete strangers on our first game, we had no practice together and neither did we use voice chat.

It then was obvious to me that with a bit of fine tuning you can easily last forever. I hope this helps some people out in feeding the Gnaw longer. If you have any comments, corrections or suggestions please let me know. Thanks for reading.

I feel like this post hasn't received enough love. This is extremely close to the strategy that got my team to #1 in the first week, and can easily get a team to 7000 points in the current score system. Originally I was planning to write a detailed guide for achieving high scores, but then then I discovered this great guide and thought I'll just piggyback on this one. For reference. I was the cook for the teams currently ranked #1 and #3.

First, some suggestions for changes in recipes;

  • Bread: Grilled Cheese -> Cheeseburger.  Grilled Cheese gives very low reward as bread.
  • Meat: Hamburger -> Cheeseburger. Better reward for cheaper ingredients.
  • Dessert: Waffle -> Caramel Cube. Better reward for cheaper ingredients. A bit torn on this one, since Waffles can be cooked faster and are guaranteed to be 100% fresh. I usually make Caramel Cubes for the benefit of using both the cookpot and the grill at the same time though.
  • Cheese: Cheeseburger if there is one already available, otherwise Mac N Cheese.

*Special mention on fish cravings: Some people might be cooking Bagel N Fish for fish cravings believing that it is the highest tier fish recipe with renewable resources. But OP is correct in using Fishburgers since Bagel N Fish gives less reward on a fish craving since it is classified mainly as a snack.

One thing that I am very sure OP had in mind but forgot to mention is that none of these recipes use the oven. So it's a good idea to install the oven on a firepit with lower accessibility and have your grill and cookpots on the ones with higher accessibility. Or just don't buy an oven in the first place. The cooking station placement mentioned by OP is one of the backbones of this strategy.

Another thing is that with these recipes, there are only two crops that Webber has to farm; wheat and onions. This is great for several reasons, at the cost of not being able to have Fettuccine in the arsenal.

  1. Simplicity
  2. Reduced walking distance since there is no need to buy tomato/garlic seeds
  3. Cook can deliver seed packets to the farmplots
  4. More space in safe

I agree that Webber is absolutely crucial in this strategy. No other character can keep up with the fast cooking speed, especially if the cook is a Wendy. Even Webber struggles a bit before the cycle is stabilized. Our team used Wendy and Wes as the other two characters for the following reasons:

Wendy: 5 out of 9 cravings require a grill. 4 out of 5 cravings which require a 4-slot cooking tool require a grill, and the cooking time for 3-slot dishes is near neglectable.

Wes: Buying plates with Wes will yield around 12% higher scores compared to not using plates, and 6% higher scores compared to other characters buying plates.

However, I think there is room to experiment with different characters, especially Wilson, Winona and WX.

Now that the scoring system has changed, there is no reason to do endless Gorge, even though it is totally possible with this strategy. My recommended escape time for maximum efficiency is around the 1.5~2 hour mark. Theoretically you will get more points the longer you play, but it comes with diminished returns so I think it's not really worth the effort. If you're curious about how the current system is related to time check out my other post. It might be an idea to change the title of this post to a guide for achieving high scores, so that it's more relevant to the current scoring system :D

Anyways kudos to OP for the detailed guide. Oh and if anyone has questions for me I'm happy to share what I know :)
