Category: Server Crash
Issue Title: Corrupt game file after each update

Issue Description: After each update my save files become corrupted. I remove all mods and restore the save folder I zipped before the update but those files then become corrupted when I restart the server (no mods installed). This forces me to restart completely with a new map and settings. When the game updates each time the same problem happens and the files become corrupt. Rolling back the server doesn't seem to work either...it takes me to the character select screen and I'm given a new world with no presets or saved content.

Any help would be appreciated. Server is hosted with citadel and I have my save file zipped if needed. I don't receive any errors when I replace the save folder. Only when I save in game or try to restart the server. I have tried reinstalling the client with and without mods, verifying integrity of game cache, and disabling cloud sync...nothing works.

Steps to Reproduce: After game updates run update and restart server. Receive corrupt save file error. Delete the save folder and extract from save.zip created before update as a back up. Restart server and save in game. Leave server and try to re-enter or restart server again.

Hi Dave0522,

Do you have one of these zipped saves handy? We've been trying to find the root cause of the issue but haven't been able to reproduce it locally. Having a save with the error would be really useful!

I'll send you all the zip files. The corrupted file had a strange symbol at the end of the file and I removed it and re-uploaded to the sessions folder. This worked for a while at first but eventually the fixed file became corrupt again. I repeat the process and it solves the problem for a few saves but eventually everything becomes corrupt again.

Thanks, that was really helpful. We've been able to fix the underlying problem and an update will be rolling out soon. It was triggered by setting meteor showers to never in the world customization.

I'm not sure why you were able to load the save after deleting the character at the end of the file, as it wasn't the actual problem. The real way to fix your save file is to open it in a text editor and find and delete the following bit:

interval=1.#INF,

(including the comma) which should appear as part of a meteorshower data block.

Be aware that if you save again before the game is updated the bad data may come back and your file corrupted again. If you wait until after the game update then you'll be safe to save to your heart's content.
