Dedicated Server Service Install (Windows)

Recommended Posts

Motivations (and what this fixes):

  • Server not restarting when it crashes
  • Logs are overwritten on every restart
  • Does not run at system boot (dedicated server with no interactive login usually)
  • Does not take advantage of system optimization for "Background Services"
  • No logging of application start/stop events
  • Setting Priority to Above Normal not persistant on restart

Purpose:

This document describes how to install a service around the DST executable so that you can manage your dedicated server on start up as well as have auto-recovery options in the event of failure or crash.
