Regular crashes, please fix(old)

Game crashes occasionally, mostly while being in the lobby, especially when interacting with equipment for some reason, may be just random crashes. When i find where game logs are i will attach them there. The issue first appeared on ruined capital update, still there.

Steps to Reproduce

I think this problem may be rare and specific to certain computers, but crashes occur on average around every 5 minutes in the lobby and sometimes during runs, mostly in the first half of the run. The problem is very annoying.

Hi @Gudy12344,

Unfortunately, your machine doesn't meet the system requirements to play Rotwood. Specifically, it looks like your video card only has 1GB of RAM, while Rotwood requires 2GB. You can find the system requirements listed on the Steam page, or I've posted it here below.

Here is your GPU, and the system requirements:

  GPU
    megsOfRam 1024
    videoModeDescription 1920 x 1080 x 4294967296 colors
    name Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630
    driverVersion 31.0.101.2111
    driverDate 20220719000000.000000-000
    refreshRate 59

This crash is outside of our control, and actually happens because your video card stops communicating with Rotwood.

There isn't much we can do about this on our end -- playing a game during Early Access without meeting the system requirements means that even though a game might work today, as more features are added it might stop eventually. It sounds like the Ruined Capital update was the breaking point for your video card.

However.

We have added three experimental command-line options for people in your situation. They might let you back into the game by reducing texture quality. You should know, however, that even if these work right now, they are not guaranteed to work forever, and if you would like to confidently continue playing Rotwood you would need to meet system requirements.

In Steam, if you right click Rotwood -> Properties -> General -> Launch Options, you can try adding one of these:

Try this first:
--lowgfx 1
if 1 doesn't work, try this:
--lowgfx 2
if 2 doesn't work, try this:
--lowgfx 3

We intend to continue optimizing throughout development, but no matter what you would need to meet system requirements to reliably play Rotwood.

Best of luck! Let me know if those options help you out.

This is honestly good to know, i did not think game is going to crash from performance issues in this case, it was not obvious one, but i am fine with playing at 1000-1500p resolutions instead of maximal one, it still looks good(in a good context/way), so it should not crash as a temporary solution, which should help, i did not encounter any problems yet, till i upgrade pc. Good luck with improving and optimizing the game. My personal advice(based on my experience) on what is possible to improve: lots of entities, enemies or creatures can affect performance, my friend told me about some lag "when a lot of stuff is happening on the screen", but as i know this can often be improved, so the game can handle more entities. Also it might be possible to add a setting to reduce special effects such as particles, through i do not know how much the game uses these. And at last, texture dump feature often helped me to improve performance without any visual changes or i did not see them, but this may only or mostly apply to 3-dimensional type games. Also crashes did mostly occur in lobby and during interactions(such as armor or gem inventory, or talking with character), i guess they are less optimized parts of the game, currently. Alright have a good day, thank you.
