Some parts of the UI allow you to select objects directly. For instance, clicking on duplicant in the Vitals screen selects that dupe. However, if the object is on a different map, the selection doesn't happen, presumably to keep you from interacting with objects on other maps. However, that object is still "half-selected" and can't be selected again until you select something else.
Once you have access to another map (like a rocket interior or asteroid):
- Find a dupe on your main map. Deselect them if selected.
- Switch to the other map. (The one the dupe is not on.)
- In the vitals screen, click on the dupe. Note how they don't get selected, or at least the selection panel doesn't appear.
- Switch to the main map. (You may have to close the Vitals panel for this. This is fine.)
- Click on the dupe directly. Note how they are unselectable now.
- Select something else. The dupe is now selectable.
This bug also makes it so double-clicking on the Vitals screen for a dupe on another map doesn't work properly. The first click attempts to select the dupe, but fails. The second click triggers the double click and switches maps, but the dupe is still unselectable, so the panel doesn't appear. You have to select something else first to be able to select them properly.
The example I give applies to dupes, but I think it applies to any object you are able to focus from different map. Most notifications fail to properly select the object on another map, even if they switch maps to center the object:
- Get a building notification (Insufficient Resources is really easy to trigger)
- Deselect the building
- Pause so the notification doesn't disappear, then switch maps
- Click on the notification. The map switches back, but the selection panel doesn't appear.
