help with video_tdr_failure nvlddmkm.sys (blue screen)

yes the dreaded blue screen!

As far as i know it happens only with ONI when saving or loading (mostly when saving)

Does not happen all the time, but it seems much more frequent lately (as the colony gets bigger and bigger?)

Blue screen message is:  "video_tdr_failure nvlddmkm.sys"

I did some internet digging but didn't find any working solution.

I hope it's ok to post a bug tracker for this kind of issues, if not please accept my apologies and please point me in the right direction.

In attachment Player.log, DxDiag.txt and last save game file. If you need other files just tell me.

Thanks for your attention

747 Cycle 753.sav

Steps to Reproduce

1. Launch ONI

2. load savegame

3. save the game or wait for autosave - As said before it doesn't occur systematically, but when it happens it is usually here

Do you have the latest drivers installed for your nvidia gpu? And have the problem started after updating to the latest version?

If running and old version update your drivers, if running the latest version you could try downgrading 1 mayor version and see if this persist.

Because you say this happens when saving i would recommend to run a scandisk of your drive to make sure it's not related to any drive problems.

thanks for your reply!

I tried to downgrade one major version to no avail.

I've dowgraded even more and managed to play ONI 3-4 cycles. I should play more to see if the issue occurs again but for now it seems ok.

Nvidia released several updated lately and one of them must have broken something. Not sure which however. The version i'm currently using is 531.61 DCH.

I will post again if this happens again, hopefully we can find another solution.

thanks again

quick update:

can play the game now, but still has some issues, now when saving it hangs/freezes sometimes. Could be related to the fact that i changed the TDR in the windows registry.

I'll check again with a new colony when i feel to. I've messed up the current one anyway :D
