I was running a test to see how many plants were needed to make Mixed Berry Pie and Berry Sludge.
I had the following plants and collected the harvest over 36 cycles:
36 - Bristle Blossom plants (manual harvest, not tended by critters)
20 - Sleetwheat plants (manual harvest, not tended by critters)
20 - Grubfruit plants (manual harvest, tended by GrubGrubs)
I would have expected to get:
216kg - Bristle Berries (1kg every 6 cycles x 36 plants x 36 cycles)
720kg - Sleetwheat grains (18kg every 18 cycles x 20 plants x 36 cycles)
<640kg-960kg - Grubfruit (8kg every 6-8 cycles x 20 plants x 36 cycles) <640kg if the growing period is 8 cycles and there were only 4 harvests, and 960kg if it is 6 cycles and there were 6 harvests, then there would be some delay from when the rub wears off and a new one is applied and also some delay between when a plant is ready to be harvested and when it actually occurs.
The purpose of the test was to determine the actual uptime of the GrubGrub rub and the growing time of the plants. The tooltip says 8 cycles growth time for the Grubfruit, but the rub gives a 50% boost to growing speed and it would take some amount of delay between rubs. I needed to know what the actual production rate of the plants was in real life vs. hypothetical.
This is what I got after 36 cycles:
216kg - Bristle Berries
720kg - Sleetwheat grains
424kg - Grubfruit
The other 2 plant types were right on the money, but the Grubfruits were way off. I loaded a save file from the middle of the test and watched my dupes harvest the fruits. When playing on 3x speed, the plants were only dropping fruit around 1/3-1/2 of the time. When I lower the game speed, they are much more reliable. I was playing with some mods during the test, but even after removing the mods, and then saving and reloading the game, the same thing occurs.
The save file and video I have attached is from the middle of the test after removing all the mods. The bristle blossoms do not have light in this save file because I was using a modded light with a slightly larger radius.
- Plant Grubfruit
- Have them tended by GrubGrubs
- Harvest the plants on 3x game speed
This will result in Grubfruit not dropping from the plants a lot of the time.
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
