My colony keeps crashing intermittently. It appears to be simulation-related and tied to this specific Ceres colony. I can load and play other colonies fine, but this one will crash between 5-15 minutes after loading. Occasionally I get the Black Hole error message, but most of the time it just drops the whole game. I have no mods active (and never have).
Edit: Additional note: it will also crash on this colony while the game has the 'escape menu' open. Not sure if the sim runs tasks during this time or if it may indicate something else going on.
Edit 2: This appears to be a different problem than I originally thought. Turns out the game is crashing on other colonies as well. I have ensured all drivers are up to date and Windows is up to date as well. I have verified integrity of files on Steam. I have also tried reinstalling the C++ 2015 Redistributable x64 and x86. I am still getting the intermittent crashes. Any ideas on what else to check?
Edit 3: Turns out this was caused by Intel CPU 13th/14th gen instability issue. Solution was a BIOS update. If you are facing a similar issue, your motherboard manufacturer should have BIOS update files and instructions available.
1. Load colony 'The Great Frozen Asteroid.sav'.
2. Play 5 - 15 minutes. (Building, swapping display overlays seems to speed this up)
3. Observe crash.
Unknown crash source, presumably from system configuration
Issue root cause: Intel 13th/14th generation instability
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
