I Alt+Tab out of my game a lot. A lot. Sometimes I'm processing screenshots, other times I'm composing forum posts. For the most part, this works just fine, but there are times when it doesn't. I run the game on both Linux and Windows and I experience the same issue in both...
Sometimes--but not always--when I have some sort of pipe or wire selected in the build menu, Alt+Tab out of the game and then click on it to return to it, the game enters the "drag to build" state even though the mouse button is not being held down. Since I can't reproduce this consistently, I can only offer the suggestion to keep trying it.
Most recently, this resulted in a crash on Linux. I had the crash report screen visible, but moving the mouse around still played the xylophone sound effects and I wasn't able to click the text box or the submit button.
Select a wire, pipe, cancel, disinfect, sweep, harvest, copy settings, etc. tool and Alt+Tab out of the game. Make an amazing post on the forums. Click on the game window to return focus to it and move the mouse around. If all goes wrong, the tool will act as though you're dragging even if the mouse button is up.
