By default, some tiles are void in the surface biome. This means they cannot hold air and will destroy it if sent there.
This shouldn't be the case.
If such a void tile is surrounded by walls, then that tile should become a vacuum tile instead of void - meaning we can fill gas there. If any tile is destroyed/opened up to the surface, then it can become a void tile again with no air.
Only then this will be more realistic
Steps to Reproduce
Have a look at the surface biome's void tiles which are enclosed on all sides - causes that region to have no air even when its completely enclosed on all sides
