The new oil critters seem to prefer to dump oil on existing oil, but sometimes will just dump it on the ground where they stand. If that causes them to share a tile with oil, they will no longer be able to move out.
They also seem to die randomly - either due to this oil thing or just because they spawn in temperatures well above their upper limit.
Steps to Reproduce
Spawn an oil critter, mop up all oil near it, feed it CO2 until it produces oil
