Item-Solid Heat Transfer

John Anderson
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Windows Fixed

Items do not transfer heat to solids they are touching, only gasses and liquids. This results in a strange behavior where a liquid in a vacuum that turns into a solid item will no longer conduct to the surface it was previously resting on.

Steps to Reproduce
Place a few kg of liquid in a vacuum touching a heat sink. Once liquid cools into an item, observe lack of heat transfer.

User Feedback

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.

In a vacuum if I drop hot ore onto cold metal I see the temperatures average out. Do you have a specific scenario in a save file that I could look at? Smaller is better if it's possible.

It appears I was wrong, it's a near vacuum that is fails to transfer, likely because it is transferring heat with the gas and doesn't check for objects it is touching anymore. Should I update the original post to reflect this?

In the attached file, the left volcano setup transfers extremely slowly, while the right rapidly.

The left has a near vacuum with just a kiss of hydrogen, and the right has a pure vacuum.

Ore now transfers heat with the ground at a lower rate than before but whether it is in a vacuum or not no longer has an effect. This should be a lot more consistent. Might not make today's patch if one goes out.

Thanks for reporting the scenario in such detail!
