Game doesn't start after today's update

Hi,

After today's update my game won't start anymore. I've already removed the mods in the mod folder and reinstalled the game, but I keep getting the same error:

Does anybody know how to fix this? Much appreciated.

Best regards,

Rogier

Steps to Reproduce

Game crashes immediately on startup.

Try updating your graphic drivers first. If that doesn't work could you try adding "-force-d3d11" to your launch options? Right click the game in steam -> Properties -> General -> Launch Options.

What version of Windows are you on? Press Windows Key + R and type "winver" then press Enter. Please include the detailed version info e.g. Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.7840).

The new version of Unity we upgraded to requires Windows 10 version 21H1 (build 19043) or newer.

I updated my graphics driver, but that didn't solve anything unfortunately.

My Window version is (sorry, it's in Dutch)

Versie 1909 (Build van besturingssysteem 18363.1556). Is that the issue?

Yes your Windows version is the issue, it hasn't been updated since 2019. The requirements have changed to at least Windows 10 21H1, which came out in 2021.

If you're unable to update Windows we have created a permanent support branch available called unity2022_support with a password "unity2022support" with the previous release.

I have 22H2 so I barely make the cut but I still can't run the game past the load menu. It keeps telling me it needs write permission to my ONI drive. I've given the EVERYONE group Full Control and made sure to update all children with the same settings. I've also un/reinstalled multiple times, including deleting the old folders completely but it STILL keeps saying it needs write access. 😭

@Rogier The steps c0ld posted are correct for enabling the branch. It should be possible to update your Windows 10 version to 21H1 or later and is recommended to keep your computer secure.

@LadyCelestine See the troubleshooting steps on this support document. Controlled Folder Access and OneDrive are the usual reasons for this error.
