Frame/tickrate dependent CO2 scrubber performance

Coolthulhu
  • Branch: Live Branch Version: Steam Known Issue

CO2 scrubbers' CO2 absorption rate depends on framerate (or tickrate), but processing speed doesn't. When the game starts to chug, the scrubber will not be able to absorb enough CO2 to keep going at full speed, despite being submerged in 2kg/tile CO2.

Picking lower speed will make it work again and will let the scrubber "restock" on stored CO2 up to the 5kg limit.

EDIT: Memory leaks don't seem to be related. Freshly started game with the save loaded had the same problem, despite running much more smoothly. Explored map percentage?

Steps to Reproduce
Run the CO2 scrubber on a computer that doesn't manage to catch up, on maximum speed. Wait for it to be unable to get enough CO2 to work at full speed. Confirm it is this bug by lowering game speed and seeing if scrubber does start working at full speed again.

User Feedback

Noticed that the same bug affects Hydrofan, but Hydrofan is affected much more strongly.

Hydrofan takes in 300g of gas per tick, clearly not scaling the amount with how much simulation time did that tick take. That is, it takes 300g of gas per out-of-game tick (I'd expect 1/60 second, but didn't check) regardless of whether that translates to 1/60 or 1/300 of simulation time.
