Entire map is permanently dark, including spawn point

I've tried a few times now to start up a game, but every time I do, the entire map is darkened--can't even see the printer. Dupe's names are visible, as well as the little red markers showing a plant that can't grow, and the little bubbles coming off of oxylite, but the map itself is just, completely black. Dupes are only visible if I turn on the 'decor' overlay and hover over their app. location.

Saving and then reloading does not fix it, and I have tried different combinations of survival/non-survival, both available asteroids, sandbox on and off, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm very confused.
