I thought the problem fixed itself. Bug report here:
But it didn't. It seems like this weird bug really causes duplicants to behave in a bizarrely suicidal way. But after further observation, I found out (?) it takes some game time for the bug to occur (around 30-120mins). Closing and reopening temporarily solves the problem, but it would come back again after a some time (again, around 30-120mins after the game loads).
So far it seems to really affect long and large games like mine (46 dupes, 1600+ cycles), but I don't know if it also affects smaller games.
Other things to note:
- The game still uses a sizeable amount of RAM (the save file attached should use up around 5-7GB), and going back to the main menu or loading a much smaller save still doesn't decrease RAM use. The game needs to be closed and reopened to normalize RAM use.
- For larger games, it can take quite a while for it to load or go back to the main menu (around 1~2mins), and while it's loading or going back to the main menu, I can't alt-tab to other applications while waiting. Debug mode (Ctrl+F4): After using the insta-dig tool to destroy the entire asteroid, I can't alt-tab to other applications while waiting for the game to finish calculating and processing the madness I just did.
- When doing a truly sadistic, heartless and cruel experiment (testing the game's CPU, RAM and GPU usage by pushing it to its limits) involving the deaths of over 1000 duplicants, the RAM use can skyrocket to around 13-14GB. Again, this does not decrease when going back to the main menu or loading smaller, less stressful and less deranged save files.
- While performance on larger colonies has definitely improved, it can still slow down to a crawl during the following situations: checking a full rations box inventory or any storage with a long list of items (not the amount of items in kg), checking the daily report specifics (e.g. travel time or stress change of each dupe), ordering the dupes to sweep a lot of stuff (e.g. unload all the storage in the left base with tons of storage containers and put the sweep order in all of them). Possibly there's more, but so far those are the things I found that can really slow down the game.
CPU specs: i7-4770, 16GB RAM (Kingston HyperX Blu 1600 DDR3), NVidia GTX1050Ti
Attached are the save files and pictures of the high RAM use.
I hope this information helps in making the game even better! ![]()

Open the Stable Era save file and play the game normally. After some time (usually 30~120mins), one or more dupes should start glitching in this manner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=webAEmdOTC4
