Can not replace ladders with plastic ones

I now have a bunch of plastic so I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my ladders for more speed.  Most other things you can do an in place replacement with a different material type, but not ladders.  You have to deconstruct them one or two at a time, wait for them to be demolished, then build a plastic ladder in its place.
