You can collect the alloy from the smelter as early as when the smelter pours metal onto its surface instead of when the alloy finishes cooling.
Steps to Reproduce
Put iron in the smelter than click smelt, note how you can harvest the smelter when the metal starts to pour from it.
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
