I wanted to go to the ruins to check something but I didn't want to risk an existing save if I did something dumb and died, so I generated a new one that was Hamlet compatible, and while it generated the overworld and first cave level just fine it crashed to desktop without an error screen in the middle of generating the ruins. When I reopened the game it said I was at Cave Depth 2 and I had a perfectly functional ruins map, so I'm not sure what happened there. It didn't happen again when, after getting killed by splumonkeys, I made a new save in the same slot and did basically the same things but played Webber. I may have caused or contributed to the problem by having too much stuff besides DS open in the background, but probably there should at least be, like, a player-facing error message here?
Start a Hamlet-compatible RoG save on default worldgen settings as Wilson. I don't think the season made a difference but for the record it gave me an autumn start. Wait for Maxwell to finish taunting you and then c_give yourself a lantern and a pickaxe and c_gonext("cave_entrance"). Open the sinkhole and descend, picking up a couple of flints in the process. Attempt to c_gonext to the ruins entrance, fail to recall the correct prefab, instead c_revealmap() and walk over, picking up small amounts of lightbulbs, twigs and grass on your way over. Mine the ruins sinkhole and attempt to descend into it. See whether your game lives or dies.
It's possible that having my browser open in the background caused or aggravated the problem by depleting the available memory, so if you're having trouble getting this to happen you could try opening a Firefox window with about 50 tabs in it while you run the game. I did close and reopen Firefox between the Wilson save that crashed and the Webber save that didn't.
