Wrong character portrait on save

Not sure if I should post this in the bug tracker because it's very hard to encounter it... I downpatched back to original toadstool for a speedrun tournament and when I went back to the newest version my savefiles (and also the servers I'd joined) all show a wrong character portrait.

Not even using the celestial portal fixes it, it just displays another wrong character. Same goes for transforming into Wonkey.

Even unimplemented characters show up.

It probably has to do with the addition of Winona, Warly, Wortox, Wormwood, Wurt, Walter, Wanda and Wonkey over the years.


Steps to Reproduce

-Downpatch to an old version

-Run the game

-Update

-Run the game on the newest patch

It's probably not supported but it may be useful to know that something like this could keep happening in case new characters get added

Ok so basically, steam only checks if the files are there and not if they are the right version. I had the outdated version of saveslot_portraits.tex

I don't understand how the game was working properly if other .tex files (like inventoryimages) were not updated though...

But anyway, my guess is the problem was the game assigns a portrait number to each character, and the portraits are in alphabetical order (wathgrithr -> waxwell -> etc), but over the years the .tex file was updated to include newer characters, so my game was trying to assign the current numerical order to the old .tex file, which resulted on the wrong character being displayed on the saveportrait.

Case closed.
