Upon picking up one of the Thorny Buoy Kits dropped by the shadow monkey from the Year of the Dragonfly event, they don't appear to have any inventory icons or art. The only way I could tell they were in my inventory is because they were wet. I'm not sure if they're even supposed to be obtainable by the player.
Edit: I used a command to count the buoys, and I now have 75 of them after maybe 15 races? They don't stack, so its a bother to clean each subsequent dropping of buoys.
1. Start a boat race.
2. Finish the boat race in 1st place (Not sure if that matters?)
3. Wait for the race to finish.
4. Go to where you last saw the shadow monkey.
5. Pick up the Thorny Buoy Kits that the shadow monkey dropped.
6. Observe the missing inventory icon.
