Hello.

Recently I bought DS together. I download it and I when click on button PLAY, jump out  inscription: "Fatal error Steam must be running to play this game (Steam_API_Init() failed)"

I saw some tutorials how fix it, but it still not working.

Please add the repair (update) of the one that will allow me to play.

If I did a language clause, I'm sorry, I'm from Poland :)

I'm thinking about recovering money, but I will wait because, I like don't starve.

I am asking for a quick answer.

Steps to Reproduce
What were you doing when this happened? - I only bought the game What steps can we take to cause the issue to happen for us? - UPDATE

User Feedback

The (steamapi_init() failed) fatal error message generally stems from within the Steam client. Other games get affected by this occasional issue as well. A couple of troubleshooting steps you can try:

1) Log out of Steam > Restart your computer > once restarted, log into Steam once more and start the game.

2) Verify the integrity of Don't Starve Together's game files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

3) Ensure that you are running your Steam Client as well as Don't Starve Together as an administrator. Setting up administrator access for Windows:

Windows 7 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14028/windows-7-how-log-on-as-an-administrator

Windows 10 https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-check-if-your-windows-10-account-is-administrator/

4) Ensure that your security software, antivirus program(s), or firewall settings are NOT blocking your computer's communication with the Steam servers. Try temporarily disabling temporarily them to see if it fixes the issue.

Should the issue persist after doing the steps above, your best next step is to contact Steam Support for Steam client technical support - they will be able to assist you with this promptly.

@-_Samurai_- If the steps listed in the thread above aren't able to help, you may need to follow Steam's troubleshooting guide for additional steps to try and resolve Steam client issues: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6218-USFX-5568

As well, we recommend making sure that there are no software running in the background that may interfere with Steam's processes: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

And if the issue persists, your best, next step is to contact Steam Support directly and inform them of your client issue.
