Steam API Init failed

Whenever I try to start DST as of lately, it lags and then I get that message.  It says "Steam must be open for this game to run", but it is, since I clicked on it in the Steam library.  Other games do still work, I checked, and yes, I did restart Steam just in case. Freshly restarted, it STILL says Steam  API() Init Failed.

Gotta be something to do with the new update, since it was fine before.

Edit:  Yes I did try running it as administrator.  Twice.

Steps to Reproduce

Go to my Steam library.

Click on Don't Starve Together.

Hit "Play"

(I...don't know what else to put here, that's literally what happens)

Hmmm..I'd really like to avoid having to do that, since it will involve moving and re-moving or redownloading all my games...and I've got a lot of games, and some of them are pretty memory-heavy.  (looks sideways at Sims 4)  It's really stupid that it's ONLY DST that's affected by this, and I have to reinstall _all_ of Steam?  What if the next event does the same thing?

No, I'd still rather have somebody from Klei at least take a look at this problem.
