[SOLVED]Constant barrage of CURL error. One after the other; over and over and over and over. help please?

Edit: After not encountering these issues at all for a day or so, it seems the problem was fixed:
Solution was to double check the firewall(I had already done that) and also the antivirus settings and whitelisting DST,DST*64 and also the server nullrenders(*64).exe inside the installation folder.

If a moderator could mark this bug as closed, that would be just swell. Thank you.

I'm constantly receiving authentication errors when trying to connect to servers, including klei servers themselves. Whether those are my own locally hosted dedicated servers or dedicated servers hosted elsewhere. This happens when:

  • Logging into the main menu after starting the game, or: after leaving a server, or: after making changes to my mods.
  • Transferring between shards on any server. This includes the mandatory switch from cave to master to cave during a rollback while the player is inside caves.
  • Literally just doing nothing and existing (not joking).
  • Launching a dedicated server. Doesn't matter if the dediserver is launched seperate(through SteamCMD) or through the game itself. it's the same process, and the same errors occur.
  • Having skins: Sometimes the klei inventory server is unavailable, and I would load in without any skins
  • Trying to see online servers in the lobby. Sometimes even my own dediserver doesn't show, and I need to connect through console.

The errors sometimes but not always happen multiple times in a row. Forcefully re-trying eventually works. The game is not playable without the local console, to re-connect to the server I was playing in, after being "authentication failed". Without using |c_connect("IP", port)| the game is softlocked(a blackscreen with nothing in it, only allowing for the console to open).

Changing my mods makes no difference. I tried to 'validate game files' in steam, which gave the false appearance of working, but did not change much in reality.

See images. the text is altered by a mod that makes texts funnier (and quite frankly it looks more honest, i digress) however these messages are real:

  • Authentication failed
  • Connection to klei failed

I've been collecting log files and it's a big heaping mess of error codes. I'll try to fish out some of em that seem important, but it all seems to boil down to an error type starting with "CURL ERROR".

So i'm just wondering what the hell is going on? Please help me out? I'm seeing once in a blue moon that other people have the same or similar issues. Perhaps there are more unanswered or unreported issues that are based on the same issue.

A friend of mine said it could be related to having an outdated Operating System, which I do have. Is this likely at all? (besides the obvious common sense notion that using outdated software comes with issues, i know that very well, though there is no concise proof that this is the root cause for all these issues here specifically)

Steps to Reproduce
  • Try to log into the main menu
  • try to enter a server
  • try to rollback while inside caves; and: switch between shards
  • Have skins and try to use them, they may disappear occasionally
  • Try to boot a dedicated server, either seperately through SteamCMD or through the host game menu itself, it doesn't matter.

User Feedback

I don't know if this is a related issue, but I had this pop up notification yesterday, after getting disconnected mid game. Reading your bug report made me think of it.

Has your problem been a persistent issue over a longer time, or something that happened yesterday?

That's curious, I haven't seen anything like it. Except this instance where I also disconnected mid-game, and lost all my skins temporarily after logging back in; The logs showing that connection to the item server had failed...
The issues in this post have been going on for a few weeks, gradually getting worse.

I managed to overcome this issue in the original post by double checking the antivirus and firewall settings.

As for your issue, if this persists you may need to contact klei support or make a new post in this here the klei bug tracker(I'd highly recommend not maybe not using this forum and contacting klei directly if possible). Perhaps you are using things like steam game sharing, shared library or something alike, or different accounts on the same pc? It seems like the game can't recognize your ownership, so maybe there is something going on with your steam, this is just guesswork though. Last thing I could suggest is logging into https://accounts.klei.com/login and see if anything is awry over there.

Feel free to send your IDs (steamid/KU/etc) to me in private message and I'll investigate! The ownership checks are one of the things my team handles.

this goes out to @konijnenmoed I'm not sure if there was a mixup with who needed help here, because it's not clear to me whether your reply, nome, was directed at me or konijnenmoed. Either way they will probably see it and take things from there. Thanks for the reply :) My issue in the original post is resolved.

Thanks! It didn't pop up after this, so it might have been a one time occurrence. If it happens again, I'll send you a private message.

Hey, it popped up again yesterday and I'd like to send you a message, but I'm not allowed to. Is there another way I can contact you with my IDs?

Hey @Adgycarp, I'm wondering if your fix/solution still works after a while? I'm experiencing a lot of issues with this exact error (Authentication Failed), and just remembered you posted this about the curl errors.

Heya, this looks like a tough one. I myself have not been very active in DST servers, but any of the times i did play, i haven't encountered this issue again so far.

I'll add a reply on your main post with anything useful i can add, and i'll ping a friend who might know more about these kind of issues.
