Basically, sometimes the world generation glitches and saplings don't spawn at all, but there are twigs scattered on the ground (so I suspect they are where the saplings are supposed to be). The world generation didn't fail/get interrupted at all, and it happened twice when my friend hosted (two different people hosting).
In one of the worlds (we gave up at first world cause no twig), I tried to enter cave and saplings spawn normally
Grass tufts, berry bushes, and such appears to be just fine, just sapling is affected for some reason
