Inconsistent CPU Usage Spike After Recent Update

Previously, I had a task where I had to generate a bunch of items in a short amount of time. When I ran it, the CPU usage increased by about 5% (as observed in htop, from a baseline of 60%) and then returned to 60%. After the recent update, the same code now consumes an additional 20%-30% of the CPU (spiking from 60% all the way to 90%) before settling back to the 60% level. If I reboot the server and run the code again, the CPU only increases by 5%. However, after the server has been running for a while, executing the same code again results in a 20%-30% increase. I haven't made any recent changes to the code.
