Incomplete experiment deletes itself and the items you use for it

AND it consumes the resources you use to build it. Can we please be allowed to build the base itself perhaps as a base decor type of platform without being able to complete it fully? And to be able to place structures over it. Or at least make it not consume the tedious resources it requires to get.
