Great Depths Worm locked screen falling rocks (DST)

The first time we saw the beast we fled to the surface. Now everytime we come back to the caves the screen freezes and a million rocks fall in our heads killing us. We cannot move our characters as this is happening. We saved a copy of the game save in case there will be a need for further investigation. Let me know if we can help figuring this out.

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.

I made a huge report on some issues with the file that manages hound and worm waves, and of all of the issues there's one oversight specifically that causes this. Ideally they should address all these issues because they've been affecting the game for years, now even worse due to the mini earth quakes that Greater Depth Worms cause during their warnings.

 

The gist of it is that due to an issue with that file related to players switching shards (caves and forest), leaving and rejoining, or simply saving and loading the game (server rollbacks included), if any of these happen during the warning phase of an attack, the attack gets duplicated. This is because it's meant to be saved that the player was gonna get attacked, and process it later, but there's one oversight not account for returning during the same warning and removing the duped information (keep in mind the main attack timer is paused if there's no players in the shard).

The specific bit causing the 3 million falling rocks (which destroy the server and cause extreme lag) are due to one of the oversights, causing the duped attack to remove the main attack warning flag (instead of removing the warning for the duped attack), which causes the main attack to go "oh, we're not in a warning phase but we're below the warning time, so play a warning immediately and set the interval timers" on every frame, due to the duped attack removing the flag again and this step repeating.

If you read what I said (or the report I linked) you'd figure out this issue isn't "shard stuff". It happens on saving and loading too, because it's related to players leaving and joining during the warning phase of a wave.

You can literally reproduce it with hound waves in the surface if you stop the server once you hear a hound warning and start it up again, try it on a server without caves.

This should be fixed in the next hotfix.
We weren't able to reproduce the exact issue, but we have fixed several related issues. Please let us know if this hasn't been solved once the hotfix is released.
