At least it looks like it can. My friend sent me this image attached below today, remarking why he couldn't find the bishop head piece all winter. Pretty funny, but the issue is clearly that this probably prevents you from fighting shadows for the entire season. He joined in winter, so he had no option of moving it off of the walrus camp before winter began.

In a practice game I put a rook nose on the walrus camp in autumn, waited for winter camps to spawn, and found it's impossible to pick up the rook nose with walrus camps in the way.
