Can no longer start any of my worlds.

Game was working fine.  I changed my Steam Password and had Steam deauthorize all devices.  Game no longer would launch claiming "there was a problem" starting the multiplayer world.  I unloaded all mods.  No change.  I changed my Klei E-mail address.  No change (not expecting it to, but just in case it was somehow related to the above).

Most notable log in client_log.txt:

User Feedback

I just tried starting a new world.

Starting a new world with caves = doesnt work.

Starting world without caves = works.

   - Disconnecting and resuming same world = doesnt work.

Okay, I unsubscribed to all mods, went into Steam's workshop mod folder for Don't Starve Together and deleted my old mod folders and the issue still persists.  I updated my log files to reflect these changes to ensure mods are not the issue.  I updated both caves and main server log text files.

This sounds crazy, but this issue happened when I told Steam to deauthorize all devices because I changed my password and I wanted to make sure no one was using my account.  I'm really wanting to focus on that.  I'm going to try and log in to another computer and see if that gives similar results.

I found this log snippet interesting:

[00:00:00]: Error string decoding Steam Net ID

Is that indicating that my Steam ID is not being read correctly from configuration?  Does that even matter.  It's when it reads the blocklist and whitelist files.  Any way, just wanted to update my findings.

So I installed Steam on another workstation and attempted to move my world (Cluster) to this host.  I noticed something.  On my computer, worlds are stored  as so:

/home/hazuez/.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/Cluster_1

However, I noticed there is this directory as well:

/home/hazuez/.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/58291677/

On the new host, I installed, I noticed the following when creating new worlds:

/home/hazuez/.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/58291677/Cluster_1

...  why did Klei move the Cluster location?  Was there ever going to be a migration plan?  What controls this location?  I know that when the server starts, it leverages a -persistent_storage_root flag to control the location of where the directories for the worlds are going to be stored.  Is this documented where we the users should be doing this work?

I moved my world into this location, and the game did not understand its existence which means that there is another configuration file I have to update somewhere to tell DST that I have save files here.  I simply created a new one and shoved my data in it.  The world launched (under a new name) and my world did start.  However, the Caves were missing.  I disconnected and looked at the Caves configuration which implied it should be there.  Upon starting it again, the error message came back.

Okay peeps, I've dug into this to a bit, and I'm going to need Klei to give me some feedback on what action should I take.  Should I try to migrate my data in the new locations?  Can Klei explain what things I should configure to make that happen?  I should add that if I convert my saves to Cloud Data, the error message is still present.

I converted the game to a Cloud Save, enabled saving game data to Steam Cloud, and started the game successfully on my Steam Deck.  I was able to stop and start the game successfully on the Steam Deck.  So this means Klei changed something that is breaking this from working on my two other computers.  Klei will need to investigate what was pushed in their latest patch?

I note that this were similar issues in the past which can be referenced here:

...granted I'm not using a dedicated server.

I'm going to try and reinstall locally and wipe out my .klei directory and see if it rebuilds/loads correctly on my workstation with the cloud saves.  Long term, I don't want to use Cloud Saves.

I wiped out my .klei directory, restarted DST, let the .klei directory populate, and the games still did not launch.  I'm now fully confident that this is a result of some update that has broken some dependencies.

I converted my cluster into a dedicated server and I'm able to join and play normally.  I noticed however in following the instructions that there are a lot of libraries that are not put in place for the dedicated server to run correctly.  I had to manually move libraries to the bin64/lib64 directory in order for the dedicated server to function correctly.  That's probably something Klei's notes should update.

Okay, from bad to worse, the latest patch on 2023.11.11 now prevents my client from even starting.  Sigh.

Okay, that is resolved...for some reason the patch made all my distributables as Windows?!  I changed it to proton, then set it back to Linux and it put the Linux executables back in there.  That was reaaaally odd.

I logged out of Steam and logged back in.  Steam immediately suggested update Don't Starve Together and it keeps changing it to a Windows version each time.  I have to use the previous work around to get the Linux binaries put back in place.  What gives?

What distribution are you running? Are you using native system libraries or the Steam runtime libraries when starting the game?

This is Gentoo.  I've used both.

Well, interestingly enough, I logged into Steam with a Web browser and when I looked at Klei's site from there, it stated that I had not linked my Klei account to Steam, so I did that again.  It looked like it tried to start or at least it ran longer, but same results.
