Make a lot of holes in your boat (by being a bad sailor like me). Repair each of the holes with the boat patch. What you'll start to notice is that the area in which you can repair your boat with wood items becomes smaller and smaller. This is b/c if you try repair said boat with the wood item over the boat patch, you don't get the prompt to repair the boat. (We used like 25-35 boat patches yesterday).

Crash your boat a ton so that it has a lot of leaks that need patching (like 20-30 leaks). Boat patch them all. See that you can't repair boat with wood items if said item is over the boat patch.
